#RockMyTBR Book Tag

Rock my TBR

Last Week I talked about the books I hope to read in 2016 that I already own through the #RockMyTBR reading challenge!  This week I am completing the book tag to go along with this! It was a lot of fun, a bit nostalgic, and helped me focus on the books I really want to make sure I get to next year.

“Smells Like Teen Spirit” (Nirvana) A contemporary I want to read

Screen Shot 2015-12-14 at 4.07.50 PM

I received What We Saw by Aaron Hartzler earlier this month, and am excited to get to it early next year!

“Shut Up and Dance” (Walk to the Moon) Most anticipated book I have

Screen Shot 2015-12-14 at 4.08.12 PM

Wolf by Wolf by Ryan Graudin has intrigued me since I first read about its publication.  An alternate version of history where a girl sets out to kill the victorious Hitler…? This is one I definitely have high on my TBR list!

“Centuries” (Remix) (Fall Out Boy)  A Twist on a Classic or Fairytale

Screen Shot 2015-12-14 at 4.08.32 PM

Strands of Bronze and Gold is a twist on the BlueBeard myths, which is a retelling I have never come across before.  It’s one I purchased off Book Outlet after the synopsis caught my attention.

“Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robot” (The Flaming Lips) a science fiction book or a book set in the future

Screen Shot 2015-12-14 at 4.09.00 PM

Midwinterblood is one that time hops and involves some other than human characters.  I got a really strong Cloud Atlas vibe when I bought it a few years ago.  It will be nice to finally have this off my TBR!

“She Looks So Perfect” (5 Seconds of Summer) a book with a girl on the cover

Screen Shot 2015-12-14 at 4.09.19 PM

I fully anticipate needing some tissues for this one!  The Summer of Letting Go follows a girl work through her grief and guilt after the death of her younger sibling.

“Africa” (Toto) a book set in a foreign country

Screen Shot 2015-12-14 at 4.09.48 PM

Jellicoe Road is about a group of boarding school students set in Australia.  Although I have heard people say that they really like this book, I don’t know too much about it other than that 🙂

“Another One Bites the Dust” (Queen) a book or books that will complete a series

Screen Shot 2015-12-14 at 4.10.06 PM

After reading Never Fade I went a bit lukewarm with this series. Hopefully my excitement picks back up as I read the last book in the Darkest Minds Trilogy.

“Someone New” (Hozier) a book by an author you haven’t read yet

Screen Shot 2015-12-14 at 4.10.42 PM

I picked up The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides at a used book store in the early part of last year.  I feel like this is something of a YA classic that I should have gotten to by now.

“Hello” (Adele) a book DNF or weren’t in the m old for at the time

Screen Shot 2015-12-14 at 4.11.09 PM

I tried reading The Kingdom of Little Wounds right after finishing Queen of the Tearling which I think was my big mistake!  Hopefully I’ll be able to get more invested in this, now that I haven’t read anything like it in a few months.

“Love at First Sight” (Kylie Minogue) a book you bought because of the cover

Screen Shot 2015-12-14 at 4.11.30 PM

This is a book I stumbled across while I was browsing Book Outlet. I barely read the synopsis before adding it to my cart and checking out. 🙂

So there it is! I challenge anyone else who is doing the #RockMyTBR reading challenge to do this book tag!

Holiday Song Book Tag

While I was listening to Christmas songs on the radio last week, I realized that this would be a super cute book tag to do during the holiday season!  So here are some of the songs I’ve heard and book tags I’ve thought of to go along with them!

Baby, It’s Cold Outside: A book with characters who have enjoyable and fun banter

Screen Shot 2015-12-05 at 12.23.58 PM                         Screen Shot 2015-11-29 at 1.25.49 PM

Sam and Jordan in Catching Jordan and Jesse’s Girl by Miranda Kenneally.  I loved how Jordan and Sam interact in Kenneally’s first book in this series so much.  Even though they harass each other constantly and both of them give as good as they get, you can tell that they have both cared deeply about each other for a long time.  I was especially happy to see that they hadn’t lost the part of their relationship as side characters in Jesse’s Girl.

Christmas Canon by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra: a book with lots of characters and a complex plot that come together to make something marvelous 🙂

Screen Shot 2015-12-05 at 12.24.20 PM

Falling Kingdoms a book that intimidated me a bit at first because of all the characters and political plotting.  Once I got going though it all fit together beautifully, and I can’t wait to see what happens in future books.

Silent Night: a book that fills you with nostalgia

Screen Shot 2015-12-05 at 12.24.38 PM

I read Wild when I was spending a lot of my college breaks and weekends, hiking and camping with friends.  When I think of Strayed’s novel, it brings me back to that time when we were altogether.

Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairiesa book you loved that takes place in a country other than your own

Screen Shot 2015-12-05 at 12.25.58 PM

To this day Anne of Green Gables makes me want to vacation in Nova Scotia and see all the wonderful scenes described in this book for myself.

White Winter Hymnal: a book that you weren’t looking for but just picked up and loved

Screen Shot 2015-09-10 at 7.25.38 PM

The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender was a book I happened to see at my library and checked out because I liked the cover.  It is still one of my favorite books of all time.

Santa Claus is Coming to Town:  a book you would give to everyone to read if you were playing Santa for the day

Screen Shot 2015-12-05 at 12.26.31 PM

Never Have I Ever is a really cute book that talks about the author’s life without ever having dated someone.  It is really cute and discusses some of the quirks of modern dating in a way that make the reader laugh of but also pause at some of the more bizarre rituals.

So there is the book tag! I challenge anyone to take some or all of these and complete their own! Leave a comment if you do, I would love to see some of your choices 🙂

The Ben ‘n’ Jerry’s Book Tag

I stumbled across the Ben ‘n’ Jerry’s Book Tag on the Bookshelves & Paperbacks blog and loved the idea instantly!  So here are my ice cream themed reads 🙂

Vanilla Caramel Fudge: Pick a light, fluffy contemporary

Screen Shot 2015-11-29 at 1.25.49 PM

Jesse’s Girl by Miranda Kenneally is a really cute, light contemporary read for days when you don’t want your book to drag your mood down.

Mint Chocolate Cookie: a new release that you wish everybody would read

Screen Shot 2015-09-22 at 2.43.05 PM

A Step Toward Falling is a book I can’t promote enough! It gives a super accurate depiction of people with disabilities, has a great storyline, and ends takes on tough issues while still being able to have light and sweet moments.

Karamel Sutra Core: a last book in a series that you were completely satisfied with

Screen Shot 2015-11-29 at 1.26.21 PM

The One is an example of over eating something super sweet.  Everything wrapped up so perfectly with little conflict that I was a little disappointed.  Even the love triangle ended up not really being a thing because one of the guy’s had one foot out the door.  This book is an example of overindulgence in this ice cream metaphor 🙂

Cherry Garcia: an ending that was bittersweet

Screen Shot 2015-11-29 at 1.26.40 PM

Harry Potter was “the series” of my childhood. I loved how it ended, but was sad to see it was all over.

Strawberry Shortcake: a book containing your OTP of OTPs

Screen Shot 2015-11-19 at 12.33.31 PM

Mac and Sydney’s relationship is one of my favorites. They don’t have instant chemistry that jumps off the page from the moment they meet and their relationship isn’t the sole focus in either of their lives.  I like how they look out for each other, and their relationship feels a lot more natural than some depicted in other YA novels.

Milk & Cookies: two authors that if they collaborated, they would go perfectly together

Screen Shot 2015-11-02 at 12.26.04 PM Screen Shot 2015-11-29 at 1.27.15 PM

If Laurie Halse Anderson and John Green wrote a book together, I would have that thing preordered months in advance.  I think their writing would compliment each other really well, and would love to see them work together someday.

Boston Cream Pie: a book that had you turning pages late into the night

Screen Shot 2015-11-29 at 1.27.34 PM

I’ll have a review of this book up soon! With the alternating chapters from different times and perspectives, I’ll Give You the Sun does a great job of keeping information from readers until the perfect moment, making this an ideal page turning read.

Chocolate Therapy: a book that makes you feel better after a long day of life

Screen Shot 2015-11-29 at 1.27.54 PM

Having read this before and knowing how things turn out, Ugly Love is the perfect book to make me laugh, cry, and just expel all my nonsense emotions after a long day 🙂

Coffee, Coffee, buzzbuzzbuzz!: a book not yet released that you can’t wait to get your hands on

Screen Shot 2015-11-29 at 1.28.13 PM

I read Ink and Bone earlier this fall and really enjoyed it.  I’m really looking forward to finding out what happens to these characters in Paper and Fire.
